Coming this summer is a new implant abutment software from Sirona for the inLab MCXL. Sirona inLab laboratories will now have the ability to mill the custom abutment and immediatly mill an all-ceramic material (such as e.max) to finish the restoration all in one shot. This technique is called the top down design technique. Simply put, the CAD technician will design the restoration as full contour crown, simply presses a button and the restoration reduces to the abutment design.

The technician would then mill the zirconia abutment from a special zircona block, then mill the emax restoration that perfectly fits over the milled abutment. The milled zirconia abutment is designed to fit over that specific type of implant that is specified in the designing process. This software will cut production time and cost for the doctor and patient.

Again this is a brief overview, we don't know too much about the possibilities, but we are really excited to get our hands on this software and share our experiences.

The list of implant systems include;
Nobel Biocare, Strauman, Astratech, Friadent, Biomet 3i, Zimmer, and Camlog

Thanks,

Darin

It is here! Well, it has been here for about 2 years now but we are still very excited about this material. When we get to talk to groups of labs and/or dentists we talk a lot about the journey the industry has taken to finally come up with an all-ceramic material that is not only esthetic, but strong. All-ceramic materials like the porcelain jacket crown, the cerestor system, the dicor system, and even empress were all esthetically pleasing, but they all lacked in strength. My Dad's porcelain jacket crowns he had lasted for about a month, a month! While most of these materials would come to pass, they all played a significant role in the development of a material that is both highly esthetic and extremely strong.

Over the past two years, Precision Dental Arts has been fabricating e.max CAD restorations on a consistant basis, and they are the restoration of choice for many of our dentists. We have been designing and milling posterior and anterior crowns, veneers, inlays and onlays with a very high success rate of well over 99%. For posterior crowns we are designing and milling the restoration full contour and achieving beautiful esthetics through the stain and glaze technique. For more demanding esthetic cases, including anterior crowns and veneers, we are designing full contour and cutting back the incisal edge and stacking porcelain to add a more sophisticated esthetic look.

A recent third party study was done testing the strength and durability, wear compatability, and cementation options of the IPS. emax CAD, and the results were in highly in favor of e.max. They used a motion fatigue machine that simulated the chewing motion of the mouth which tested the durability of the crown, and the results were astounding. I can go on and on about these results but it is better if you check them out for yourself by clicking here. All the results are impressive, but the most telling result is our own success rate and our clients reactions.

IPS e.max can be prescribed through CEREC Connect or with traditional Impressions. Here are some examples of IPS e.max CAD restorations in the anterior.

Thanks,

Darin

Welcome to the Precision Dental Arts Blog! We are a cutting edge dental laboratory located in Tigard, Oregon that specializes in all-ceramic milled restorations and digital dentistry. We have been milling all-ceramic material on our Sirona inLab system for over 5 years and recently dove into digital dentistry with CEREC Connect. As advocates for Sirona we have been around the country telling our story and listening to the stories of others. As we traveled we learned that there isn't very much information available to those Dentists and Dental Labs that are leading this shift to digital dentistry, it is kind of like a trial and error process for those of us on the cutting edge. Thus, we decided to start this blog to open up the lines of communication between those cutting edge Dentists and Dental Labs around the country to better ourselves and those that follow this blog.

We will be updating this blog with:

How to's
